The Mesa as Healing Ground
An Apprenticeship in Cross-Cultural Healing Traditions
This apprenticeship is being offered from a deep sense of love and reverence to our Mother Earth (Pachamama) and to All Her Relations. All indigenous healing traditions, specifically the Peruvian mesa tradition, are based on a life path of service through ritual and ceremony in honor to Pachamama and to the unseen worlds. This apprenticeship will be about attaining a state of balance and healing within ourselves and the outside world.
We will focus on creating and working deeply with the mesa, a form of healing altar used by curanderos in the North coast of Peru. The focus will be on our own personal healing and awakening, as well as that of the larger community and the planet. According to Peruvian shaman Oscar Miro-Quesada, the mesa is “a beautiful container of spirit, and it is also a soul-infused artifact of the material world. It is a living dynamic pattern upon which and within which we can consciously do our transformative personal and planetary healing work.”
In embracing indigenous earth-honoring traditions such as this one, we are committing to lives devoted to a path of love and service, experiencing more joy, empowerment, and communion with nature and spirit than ever believed possible.
In this apprenticeship we will:
• Experience deep healing on all levels, physical, emotional, spiritual and mental
• Strengthen our connection to Pachamama and all the elements through work in nature
• Connect (re-connect?) to nature-based spiritual traditions of North and South America
• Create a mesa to deepen our understanding of the healing power of the elements
• Begin to live from a more authentic and truthful place
We will be meeting four times within a one-year period for intensive weekend retreats at Camp Ronora a nature preserve 100 miles outside of Chicago. Those of you who have attended retreats at Ronora know what a sacred and safe haven it provides to do deep transformative work. Those of you who have never been there are in for a joyous treat.
This apprenticeship will require a commitment to attend all four gatherings. There will also be meetings of smaller groups in between the retreats to continue the process of healing and to integrate the teachings of the weekends. All workshops will begin at 3:00 on Friday afternoon and end at 2:00 on Sunday afternoon, Michigan time. Dates of the apprenticeship are:
April 3 – 5, 2009
June 5 – 7, 2009
October 23 – 25, 2009
